Semi-Pro: Unrated - DVD - Angled Doors Review

 Another Will Ferrell vehicle. Wasn't the best, but like any Will Ferrell movie it's still a lot of fun. In this one he is some disco one hit wonder that bought a basketball team with his royalties. He's the teams owner/coach/team-member. The team is making no money at all, they are fixing to have to shut down. The NBA is going to pick up a couple of the minor league teams, but Jackie (Will Ferrell) has to get people into the stadium and prove his team is worth picking up. So he does a bunch of silly antics to pull in a crowd. That pretty much sums up the movie. Doesn't sound worth watching, but Will Ferrell always makes movies like that. Remember Elf? Freaking hilarious. So yeah. Worth getting.

Lords Of Dogtown - DVD - Angled Doors Review

 This flick is about the start of skate boarding as we know it. Written by Stacy Peralta it chronicles the early days and rise to stardom of Stacy, Tony Alva and the rest of the Z-boys. From the interviews I've read with people like Jay Adams it's not completely factual, but that's understandable when your trying to make a PG-13 film out of a XXX life. There's cameos by everyone in this film to, which is cool. The most surprising performance was Heath Ledger as Skip, the head of the Zephyr team. I've seen this movie 6 times and I just now recognized him... I guess he's a better actor than I always thought. I also really dig the film stock they used making this. It's got that 70's feel to it, so you really believe it's taking place in the era. This dvd has the basic extras. After seeing both versions I recommend picking up the unrated version.

National Lampoon's Bagboy - DVD - Angled Doors Review

 National Lampoon movies seem to be out every other week now. No longer are the days when you were guaranteed a laughfest when you see the logo on the box. I still find myself guilty picking one up from the rental store every few visits hopeing for some good mindless entertainment. Bagboy delivers. Filled with the sheer stupidity you expect form a National Lampoon film, but also delivered with an actual story. One you enjoy watching and waiting to see what happens next. Revolving around grocery store bagging competitions, a has-been bagger is coaching a new young bagger. Sounds lame... but it's actually pretty cool.

  SOOOOOOOOO What happens when an actress losing her shine decides to direct a movie? The result is Whip It. I for one thought it sucked. Not because of the story, or acting, but the direction and some shots just fell flat. It reminded me of a pg-13 version of Rollerball. Yeah, A lot of us know about the Womens Rollerball league and the history on that, but this version just seems to be way too much bubble gum and Revlon color stay. If Miss Drew really wanted to make this an epic smash, she would’ve made this a very hard PG-13. I felt that with a touch more of adult content this film would’ve gotten a solid 4 stars.


  So our story goes as this……In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit ( Page ) finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin. AWWWWWWWW so little miss EX- Pagent Contestant in a small town now wants to throw elbows, sweat, Roller skate, and feel all adult. Good God Thankfully I’m not Diabetic, or I would’ve gone into shock in my seat. Really? This movie is nothing more than a chance for Ellen Page to shed the Juno tag, and nothing else. I felt that as a film reviewer my mind had turned to baby shit and was leaking outta my ears.


  If you’re a Parent and want to treat your kid to a semi chucked up movie, then this would be for you. My other complaint is Miss Drew’s constant attention to the 1970’s. Charlies Angels was OK for a Late 90’s summer blockbuster. But it’s 10 years later, and a lot of the world really doesn’t care to see yet another disgruntled Indie kid trying to make it in the world full of catch phrases and snarky attitude. In all I would sum it up by saying this movie was an Epic FAIL, but was funny to see Juno get put on her ass…..Where’s Bleaker now when you need him Juno?
